The charmingest flashmob you ever did see

Has there ever been a charming flashmob? I can’t remember one. They’re usually loud, wordy, in your face. Well here is a group of students at the Ohio State University doing the dabka, the Palestinian dance to alert the campus to Nakba Day last week. Beautiful. A reminder of the restraint and civility you encounter everywhere in Palestine. Thanks, Susie Kneedler.

And speaking of Ohio State, below is a video post from the Ohio State newspaper, The Lantern, documenting the performance of “A lover from Palestine” at the school last Friday.

Asil Najjar, a student at OSU:

It’s important to raise awareness of what’s happening in Palestine. Their lives are restricted. Innocent civilians are dying every day in Palestine. They’re not terrorists… In order for something to change in the world, we need to spread the word. People don’t know about this

Fun to watch, and would think great fun to do.

And it makes a point without screaming or whining.

That’s true, you do encounter civility in Palestine.

There is a high cost for Palestinian-Americans to speak out: everyone thinks they are terrorists. You have to be brave to do it.
