‘NYT’ puts East Jerusalem in Israel

From the New York Times site today, here’s a photo of Palestinian youth in Shuafat refugee camp in East Jerusalem protesting the anti-Islam film. The Times identifies the photograph as one from “Israel.” A friend has left this comment on the Times site:

Your headline mentions “Israel” and yet the only photo that seems related is an image from Shuafat refugee camp, which is in East Jerusalem, which is considered occupied Palestinian territory under international law. Though Israel annexed East Jerusalem in 1967, no other government has recognized that move as legitimate. A news organization of your stature should be aware of these nuances, no matter how complicated the politics of the region may be. I suggest that you correct the headline.

Good catch

And Shu’fat is most definitely NOT in Israel since it is full of unwanted Palestinians that would mess up the demographic calculations.

i sent @nytimes a little tweet #shameonyou

The Times consciously does that everytime they use the word Jerusalem with out making clear that they are referring to West Jerusalem or occupied East Jerusalem. If the owners objected to such misreporting, they would surely do something about it.

How about just biting the bullet and admitting that the entire “Israel proper” is actually very improper and it really is ALL stolen land.

“it really is ALL stolen land”

Odd. The International Community of Nations recognized Israel as “an independent republic within frontiers approved by the General Assembly of the United Nations in its Resolution of November 29, 1947”. It was admitted to the UN as such.

The territory it has since illegally acquired by war and never legally annexed is indeed stolen land.
