Weekly Briefing: Voters are breaking with the Israel lobby faster than Washington can catch up

Voters in Michigan handed pro-Palestinian and anti-establishment candidates 11 out of 16 contested primary races this month, while AIPAC burned through more than $30 million trying and failing to stop Abdul El-Sayed’s Senate run. Tom Perkins reports on what the wins mean for Michigan’s most pro-Palestinian slate of elected officials in the state’s history.

In Florida’s 25th district, DSA member and union organizer Oliver Larkin is challenging Jared Moskowitz, one of the most reliably pro-Israel votes in the House. Michael Arria looks at how the fight over Israel policy is playing out across multiple Florida primaries, from Angie Nixon’s Senate bid to the AG’s race against the New York Times.

🇵🇸 West Bank and Gaza

In Gaza, children are clearing rubble by hand for $10 a day, and a press corps is decimated by targeted killings. In the West Bank, refugee camps are under renewed military threat, a community doctor is imprisoned, and farmers are racing settler cattle to bring in the wheat harvest.

Nakba 2.0:

An extremist Israeli lawmaker in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition publicly advocated for killing “30 to 40” people in Gaza each night, comments that surfaced Sunday and were quickly shared by Palestinian media….“I think targeted assassinations should be carried out in Gaza, taking down 30 to 40 every night. Not just those who pose an immediate threat — there are people there who are not worthy of life. They shouldn’t live. They’re not even people.”

Israeli settlers encircle Palestinian homes and cut off supplies, leading to a declaration of a military zone…..Since August 9, dozens of Israeli settlers have surrounded three Palestinian homes in the Ras al-Ain area on the edge of the village, cutting off water and electricity as food and other supplies run low. About 15 Palestinians from the Abu Rida and Hassan families live in these homes, among them two children under the age of seven and one belonging to a dual US citizen. Residents said settlers from nearby outposts have been trying to take the properties for months.

If Israel is a ‘Jewish state” what does that mean?

Israel has gone mad. U.S. Reps, the citizens of the U.S. etc should run away from the genocidal, apartheid, sadist government of Israel as fast as they can. Israel has gone mad.

Basis to reason that Mondoweiss would advance Palestinian self-determinstion via discussions on what would be a workable vision for the future or by elaborating on the intended meaning of it’s tee and tote message.
